1867 – Holmes Cemetery founded

1870 – Town founded as “Coal Centre”. Due to a name conflict, town’s name is   changed to Prescott

1870 – Prescott Cemetery founded

1873 – Methodist church organized. Church later built 1881

1873 – First school opens in a private residence

1876 – Small, frame one-room schoolhouse constructed

1883 – New school constructed (now library)

1883 – McIntyre Bridge built east of town

1884 – Presbyterian Church built

1884-1885 – Mantey and Fairmont churches built

1885 – Vote for new Linn County Courthouse

1886 – Schoolyard fenced

1886 – New belfry put on Baptist Church (once used as a one room schoolhouse)

1889 – Shade trees set out along Main Street and schoolyard

1889 – Hedge Law in effect; no higher than 5 feet unless used as a windbreak

1889 – Fulton Catholic Church built

1900 – Train wreck between Prescott and Fulton

1901 – Changed railroad’s name to “Frisco”

1901 – First horseless carriage in township

1903 – First telephone installed

1910 – Sidewalk laid on two sides of schoolyard

1921 – City electricity is approved via election

1925 – Light poles moved to the center of Main Street

1926 – All weather highway built. First named US 73E, it became US 69
